What is the Codee Roommate Study?

The purpose of the study is to introduce a new way to comprehend and classify roommate relationships to increase relational satisfaction. Rapport building between roommates is made easier when there is underlying compatibility.

Why are we doing this?

We underscore the importance of putting effort into finding a compatible roommate. Usually, we look for a place and then find a person who wants to live in the same place - until we are privy to the alarming statistics of the many young adults who have compromised mental well-being because of the stressors that come with living with someone incompatible.

The degree to which roommates get along is an essential determinant of their quality of life. When roommates do not get along, they experience a significant amount of stress that pervades beyond the four walls they share.

The present study aims to fill that gap and explore platonic compatibility. We purport to connect roommates who are compatible with each other using our preparatory algorithm - the CCI-R.

By formulating a roommate compatibility algorithm, we hope to make more accurate predictions about relationship satisfaction. As a result, statistics of roommate conflict should be reduced, and interpersonal conflict minimized.

Why is this important?

Relationship compatibility has recently become a popular topic of discussion with the many dating apps and internet matching sites coming up.

But what’s strangely not even close to the surface of this dialogue is compatibility between friends, roommates or anyone you don’t share a romantic interest with.

There is a grave lack of literature articulating the significance of compatibility in meaningful platonic relationships.

How can you help us?

You and your roommate can help us build an algorithm to help people find compatible roommates.

You and your roommate will individually fill a survey comprising 108 multiple-choice questions. The survey takes, on average, 15 minutes to be filled out completely.
